  • Data collection arrangements

Clinical, laboratory and demographic data will be collected and stored on the database for all consented patients being referred into secondary care with a clinical diagnosis of peripheral artery disease, ideally at the time of their referral (or after if that is easier), for the following:

    1) To allow access to their medical information held by both primary and secondary care, in order to follow up their referral and collect any outcome and longitudinal data for the purposes of evaluating the healthcare services offered by the Trust.

    2) To be contacted in the future about their experiences or should we receive further research studies that might be of interest to them.

    3) To allow their data to be used for future research purposes

It is envisaged that some 100-300 patients per year may be registered with the database. Patients will be recruited from York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust only; this incorporates York and the surrounding areas of Scarborough, Bridlington, Malton, Whitby, Selby and Easingwold. The data will be collected and stored on a purpose electronic database housed by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Delegated Trust staff will collect and input the data and the database will be managed and maintained by the Trust Research and Development Unit.

  • Research programme

Designed by the York PAD Research Group, the aim of the database is to help us to identify the optimal management of patients with peripheral artery disease. It will enable us to have access to an extensive on-going primary/secondary care database of PAD patients and their clinical outcomes. The consent to future contact will not only provide benefit to patients in terms of collection and monitoring of their long-term clinical outcomes but also provide them valuable opportunities to share their experiences and to be involved with future research into their condition that may benefit them and future patients. The database will help to facilitate research; it will assemble an invaluable repository of patient data that can be accessed by researchers. It will also allow patients to be invited to participate in condition-specific studies, or to receive new patient information concerning their health condition.
