Research summary
The study objective is to explore whether women's thoughts and feelings around birth affect perineal trauma. It will be single centre study in a primary care setting. Around 10-12 women will be interviewed in the two weeks following birth. These women will have had a spontaneous vaginal birth of their first baby. Their interviews will be recorded, transcribed and analysed using framework analysis. The interviews will be between 30 and 60 minutes. A computerised hospital record will also be analysed to find out their outcome in terms of perineal trauma after they have given birth. The interviews will then be compared against these outcomes looking for common themes.
