Research summary
The aim of the study is to establish whether agreement between patient and psychiatrist on how the consultation should be viewed in relation to partnership has any subsequent impact on quality of life over and above that of routine treatment. Patients will complete questionnaires designed to establish their views of collaboration. Psychiatrists will also complete these questionnaires AS IF they were the patient. The measure of agreement will be the correlation between these completed questionnaires. Patients will also complete standardised valid measures on efficacy of medication, side effects and quality of life.
The main hypothesis is that quality of life will be associated with the degree to which patients and psychiatrists agree on the patients' assessment of the value of partnership within the consultation.
