Research summary
Glue ear, or Otitis Media with Effusion (OME, is an extremely common conditions affecting children’s hearing. However, current treatments (typically surgery with grommets) are not ideal because glue often comes back once grommets come out. Therefore, more glue ear research is need in the future. It is important that research focuses on what matters to parents and children with glue ear, so that the research can be designed to address and study those things that parents value. This project is going to explore what matters to parents and children with glue ear, and will also examine what would be acceptable and feasible to study in any future clinical trials. This will be done through a series of focus group discussions and a questionnaire. This work will help to guide Glue Ear research, so that what matters to parents is placed at the centre of future research projects.
