Research summary
This research seeks to explore the phenomenon of Advanced Clinical Practice Physiotherapists working in roles previously done by general practitioners in a primary care, identify the barriers and facilitators to the development of the role and any potential development for the future. General practice appears to be in a state of crisis with patients reporting that they have difficulty accessing their general practitioner (GP), GPs reporting an increase in volume and intensity of work and fewer GPs working and training. The research aims are to explore the experiences and perceptions of physiotherapists working as ACPPs in GP practices using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis. Participants recruited will be currently working in primary care roles as ACPPs, and their perceptions and experiences were gathered using in-depth interviews and reflective journals, and these experiences will be interpreted by the researcher, who has some understanding of their experiences due to sharing many of the experiences as a trainee ACPP.
