Research summary
In recent decades there has been a growth in wellbeing measures and research into wellbeing across life domains such as work and aging. However the measurement of wellbeing in pregnancy and childbirth has remained underdeveloped. The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between maternal well-being, perceived social support and activity during pregnancy and birth outcomes. The objectives of the current study are (1) to pilot a pregnancy-specific well-being measure, a perceived social support measure and activity in pregnancy measure, (2) to confirm the reliability and validity of the well-being, social support and physical activity measures and (3) to explore the associations between perceived social support, physical activity, maternal well-being with demographic profiles and birth outcomes of the women that complete the questionnaire. The set of questionnaires will be completed by a sample of 300 women when attending their ultrasound appointments. The suitability of using this measure will inform use of the questionnaire in subsequent intervention studies.
