Research summary
Our aim is to firstly gain insight into the management of patients with COPD and co-morbidities. We will achieve this by carrying out focus groups and interviews of patients, carers and healthcare professionals. We then plan to design a wearable vest which will be able to detect a number of biophysiological signals from the patient ( such as heart rate, oxygen saturation level and breath sounds). The vest will transmit this data to a cloud based computer system which can be accessed by healthcare professionals. Data will be assessed to see if it could have helped with patient management by the utilisatioon of such signals. In conjunction, a computor based application would be used to help in health advice and life style monitoring, with questionaire based methodology to assess the patients's mood so that depression, a common co-morbidity in COPD patients, is also monitored.
