  • Research summary

This is a single case study of an inpatient in a hospital acute rehabilitation setting who has communication difficulties following stroke. The study aims to explore the effects of adding a voice output communication aid (VOCA) to the hospital’s existing low-tech post-stroke communication chart on the patient’s functional communication. Project activities include the main researcher visiting the patient on the acute rehabilitation ward to design and implement the VOCA. The researcher will also assess the VOCA’s impact on the patient’s functional communication using Therapy Outcome Measures and semi-structured interviews with the patient and staff.
