Research summary
Virtual reality (VR) is being increasingly used in a range of contexts including leisure, education and healthcare. In hospitals, several studies have been carried out suggesting that the use of VR may help people to feel less pain and anxiety and feel more relaxed. This research has been done across several different types of wards and units, but not previously in a neurorehabilitation unit. Patients in a neurorehabilitation unit may have some particular needs and differences to patients on other wards therefore we are keen to explore whether VR can be used for patients on our unit.
This study is designed to look at the “feasibility” of using VR in an NHS neurorehabilitation unit. We will be exploring which staff find it helpful to use with which patients in different settings and with a range of outcomes.
