Research summary
Several epidemiological studies in the British South Asian population have demonstrated a higher incidence of inflammatory bowel disease. We suspect a contributory factor could be the change in diet. We need to accurately define the food group intake in this population however there are no dietary questionnaires which reflect the intake of this group.
There is a need for a validated self-administered dietary questionnaire reflecting the dietary habits of the South Asian group. This will help relate dietary factors to risk of develop inflammatory bowel disease.
The Scottish Collaborative group (SCG) have designed a self-administered FFQ for the typical British and Irish diet. We propose to validate this FFQ for the South Asian population particularly for food group intake by comparing this questionnaire with a 4 day food diary.REC name
