Research summary
IVF treatment is a complex and costly process requiring continuous observation and critical decisions of embryologists and physicians at multiple critical stages.
There is a large variability in success rates, not only with different types of patients, but also at various centers. The overall success rate (average live birth rate) is estimated at 20%, despite the introduction of many new techniques over the years.
High throughput technology that includes automation and novel data analyses, may enable more accurate and tailored decision making that will result in more cost-effective IVF treatments and better outcomes.By using AI capabilities and huge accumulated data from time lapse videos of developing human embryos, AI driven video analysis may identify known and unknown features (embryological milestones) that correlate and characterize a healthy embryo, even some which are often invisible to the human eye.
Such complicated algorithm may provide an end-to-end AI decision support tool for the clinician and embryologist throughout the entire IVF process, thus lowering laboratory costs and increasing success ratesREC name
