Research summary
The study is part of a PhD project* aimed to deepen the knowledge about the benefits for emotional health (positive approach to health, understood as well-being) in accompanying the new families helping them to better identify, express and understand their needs and emotions during the primal period (foetal life, birth and the first year of life)
Improved family support and care during this very important period results in a substantial reduction of healthcare demand on behalf of the family.
We hope to show healthcare professionals how to to better apply resources for family support and well-being during this period, as we have found mothers and fathers have lower levels of stress and feel more capable; this in turn improves the baby’s well-being; and thus, there is a clear reduction in intensive and extensive healthcare resource use.
*An equivalent study has been undertaken at the Vall d’Hebron Mother and Child Hospital, Barcelona, with ethics approval in place.REC name
