Research summary
This study has been developed as a public health response to the COVID-19 crisis, aiming to support the wellbeing of NHS mental staff using an accessible blended-care intervention that combines video-based workshops with online self-help materials. The study will examine the effectiveness of a "job crafting" intervention designed to reduce occupational burnout and to improve wellbeing. The intervention has been previously found to be acceptable to NHS professionals in our previous study (UpLift Trial 1). The study will compare the effects of job crafting relative to a waitlist control group, using a stepped-wedge, cluster randomised controlled trial design. The study specifically seeks to include psychological professionals working in Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services, based on prior evidence that occupational burnout levels are notoriously high in mental healthcare providers.
