Research summary
The incidence of anal cancer in the UK and worldwide is rising and the UK National Screening Committee has suggested that screening for anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN), the pre-cursor to anal cancer, in high-risk populations may be of benefit, but that further information is needed. The ANALOGY study is investigating the feasability, acceptability and efficacy of anal screening in a clinical context and this project aims to understand the reasons why some of those approached about particpating in the study choose not to.
Understanding why individuals may or may not participate in anal screening and identifying barriers that may exist will be important in understanding how the target population may engage if an anal screening programme is introduced. This study will use a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews to gather the views of those choosing not to particpate in the study.
