Research summary
Recent studies have shown that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been effectively used as an adjunct to standard medical treatment in people with psoriasis. To date no published research has explored the factors that might have contributed to the outcome of CBT when used as a adjunct treatment for individuals with psoriasis. This study aims to explore the subjective experience of individuals with psoriasis who have received a course of CBT as part of their wider management in order to understand better what factors have contributed to therapeutic outcome. For the proposed study twelve to eighteen participants will be interviewed by the Chief Investigator. The interviews will take place at the premises of the Royal Free Hospital and will last for up to 60 minutes. Interviews will be digitally recorded and then transcribed. Transcribed interviews will be analysed using Grounded Theory. Results will provide valuable insight as to what contributes to positive outcome and what might work for this population.
