Research summary
This research study aims to describe what life is like for people with severe liver disease and their families. Using questionnaires and interviews, we will ask people with severe liver disease:
• To describe their quality of life;
• To describe what symptoms they may have and how bad they are;
• To tell us what concerns and worries they have about life and their illness.We recognize that people living with liver disease often need extra help from family, friends and health-care professionals. We will ask people with liver disease and their family or close friends to tell us:
• What help they are requiring;
• How this changes from month to month;
• Whether the help they are getting meets their needs.This research is important as liver disease is the fifth biggest killer in England and Wales. The numbers of people living and dying with this disease are increasing every year. This study will allow us to better understand the problems facing patients and families dealing with liver disease. This knowledge will allow us to improve healthcare services to better suit our patient’s needs and improve their quality of life.
