Research summary
The broad aim of the project was to empirically investigate whether adults with mild intellectual (learning) disability (ID) were at a disadvantage in understanding Magistrates’ Courts proceedings in England and Wales. Individuals with ID would be recruited from services for individuals who were administratively defined as having ID (including NHS, local authority or charitable services), and tested using structured interviews assessing understanding of Magistrates’ Courts proceedings, and compared to a control group recruited from the general population.
