  • Research summary

Ultrasound scanning will be used to investigate how forms of lower limb fracture immobilisation affect the flow of blood through the popliteal vein. Healthy volunteers will have blood flow measured using an ultrasound scanner during movements of the toes and ankle. Scans will be repeated without immobilisation, in a removable Aircast boot, in a below knee plaster cast bearing weight, and in a below knee plaster cast not bearing weight.
