Research summary
International evidence suggests veterans of the armed forces are at increased risk of gambling-related harm. The UK Armed Forces Veterans’ Health and Gambling Study is a two-year survey, funded by Forces in Mind Trust, to ascertain the nature and extent of gambling behaviour in veterans from across the UK and Northern Ireland. It will identify gambling prevalence rates, physical and mental health behaviours associated with gambling-related harm, and estimate the healthcare costs of problem gambling. Findings will have implications for future policy and should lead to better-targeted initiatives to support veterans in transition.
