  • Research summary

Patients who recover from COVID-19 may exhibit various residual problems and/or exacerbation of underlying comorbidities, thus requiring further support and follow-up post-COVID-19. UHCW NHS Trust has introduced a new multidisciplinary clinical pathway for the follow-up of patients that recover from COVID-19. Each patient within this multidisciplinary care pathway undergoes a number of clinical and laboratory examinations/tests (e.g. chest X-rays and CTs, blood and urine tests, bronchoscopy etc.) at each follow-up time-point as clinically required. As such, the primary objective of this study is to systematically capture all clinical outcome data and lab results from this clinical pathway in order to comprehensively characterize the residual problems and relevant healthcare needs of these patients after COVID-19, as well as to use collect clinical samples (e.g. blood, urine, biopsy samples) to perform additional analyses which may help to better understand pathophysiological changes in these patients post-COVID-19. This “real world” structured research approach is expected to allow us to systematically identify and characterize the residual problems and long-term impact of COVID-19 in order to better inform the relevant evidence-based recommendations for patients that recover for COVID-19.
