  • Research summary

18-25-year-olds (emerging adults according to Arnett (2000)) are increasingly recognised, in industrialised countries, as having unique developmental needs. Evidence suggests that their mental health needs are not being fully met as clinicians are not trained in this area. To explore this, The study will evaluate care coordination in secondary care community adult mental health service in an NHS Trust in the UK to see if it meets the needs of emerging adults. Literature reviews reveal a gap in knowledge about emerging adults and clinicians' experiences in mental health services in the UK. Can a realistic evaluation with integrated interpretative phenomenological analysis provide the depth and breadth of qualitative evidence needed to shape research priorities in this area?
