  • Research summary

The aim of the study is to identify barriers and facilitators to progressing through each step of the cascade of care for contacts of index patients with active tuberculosis and opportunities for improvement.

    The objectives are:
    - Summarise the progress of contacts of index patients with active tuberculosis through the cascade of care for the TB services of South Yorkshire (SY)
    - Perform a thematic analysis of service and patient side factors that might influence contact tracing through TB CNS and patient interview
    - Measure which of these factors are considered most important using a questionnaire survey of patients and contacts.
    - Determine which factors identified in objective 3 are significant predictors of progress through the contact tracing cascade using multivariate analysis of data from objective 1.

This original research study will form the basis of an undergraduate BSc in medical sciences research project for an intercalating medical student.
