Research summary
This is a randomised control trial looking at resorbable vs non-resorbable sutures for traumatic lacerations of the face (TORN Face) in the adult population (>18yrs) who present to a single A&E department (Cambridge University Hospital’s). There is a difference of opinion between clinicians regarding which is preferable in terms of post-operative infection, cosmetic outcome and patient convenience. This trail aims to address these questions utilising a standardised approach to wound care and closure with the most commonly used suture materials for facial lacerations (Vicryl Rapide and Ethilon). The study will also look at patient reported outcomes, number of contacts with health care professionals as well as cost implications.
