  • Research summary

Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is quite a common problem in UK women , and it is estimated that it affects about 20–30% of women of reproductive age. It is believed to be the fourth most common reason women are referred to gynaecological services, with an estimate of 80 000 women in England and Wales each year.
The efficacy and safety of these various methods have been evaluated in several published studies, but the medical society is now increasingly becoming aware of the importance of the patients’ own perspective on the treatment outcomes.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the patient reported outcomes for those ladies who have undergone endometrial ablation procedures and/or Mirena coil (IUS) insertion for HMB in the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The study will be conducted retrospectively on the cases performed between 2011-2013.
