  • Research summary

Purpose: to describe the consequences following complications of glaucoma surgery in a meaningful way to glaucoma patients and identify which of these are most important to patients. To create a resource for patients and clinicians describing the consequences of complications of glaucoma surgery to inform discussions before glaucoma surgery.
Methods: we will interview patients who have had complications following glaucoma surgery and ask them to explain what consequences they experience from their complications and how this impacted on the tasks of daily living. We will compare these to a list of consequences following the complication from glaucoma surgery with those identified as important by clinicians and modify this list accordingly. We will describe the consequences of complications identified into language understood by patients. We will then ask patients to rank these consequences from most important to least important to them
Results: patient informed list of consequences of complications of glaucoma surgery and ranking of the importance of these consequences of complications by patients will be reported. A resource describing these consequences for patients and clinicians to inform the discussions of potential complications of glaucoma surgery will be produced
Conclusion: defining the consequences of complications of glaucoma surgery and their importance to patients will inform discussions of glaucoma surgery and improve consistency in explaining these to patients.
