Research summary
This study aims to characterise the behaviour of endothelial stem cells (cells lining blood vessels) following the arterial injury which happens in the radial (wrist) and coronary (heart) arteries following angiography. Prior to an elective angiogram endothelial stem cells will be produced from a donation of the patient's own blood, labelled with a radio-tracer and injected either intra-arterially or intra-venously at the time of angiography. The fate of the cells will then be followed using a specialised CT scanner (CT-PET). The function of the radial artery will also be assessed at baseline, 24 hours, one week, one month and three months using an ultrasound-based technique.
