Research summary
This study will look at the fundamental mechanisms of tooth whitening and the efficacy of tooth whitening formulations using extracted human teeth. Donors will be aged 14 or over and having teeth extracted for clinical reasons. Extracted teeth should be mainly free of fillings and significant decay or other damage. Having been extracted for clinical reasons the teeth are otherwise surplus tissue. Possible donors are identified and recruited by their dental practitioner who obtains informed consent from the donor or their guardian. All samples are supplied to the sponsor by the dental practitioner in anonymised form. The research will be carried out at the sponsors independent research laboratory. The sponsor will approach dental practitioners to supply suitable samples and arrange periodic collection. The scientific study is fully funded and will run for three years, however the donors participation will end after donating their tooth/teeth.
