  • Research summary

TIGA-CUB is a randomised, controlled feasibility trial looking at the practicability of implementing a confirmatory, randomised controlled trial (RCT) comparing Child Psychotherapy (CP) to Treatment as Usual (TaU), as a second-line intervention for children aged 5-11 with treatment resistant conduct disorders and inter-generational attachment difficulties and for their primary carers. \n\nThe trial aims to recruit 60 primary carer-child pairs (‘dyads’) from centres in North and West Yorkshire. Child Psychotherapy will be delivered by qualified Child Psychotherapists (CAPTs) working in routine NHS clinical practice, using a manual developed specifically for use in this trial. The manual is based on a brief version of established NHS Child Psychotherapy clinical practice and has been developed with funding from Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. \n\nRecruitment methods, outcome and follow-up rates, therapeutic delivery, retention in therapy, and establishment of the intervention will be recorded and, if feasible, the findings will be used to inform the design of a confirmatory, multi-centre randomised controlled trial, including its sample size calculation.
