Research summary
We are seeking to talk to young people who have experienced discharge from The Riverside Tier 4 CAMHS inpatient unit in Bristol to get an understanding of their experiences and the need for future improvements to services. Commissioners have identified a need for a residential home option for young people leaving Tier 4 and we want to use this research to understand young people's views of this option.
Purpose
• To learn about the experiences of children and young people at the time of Tier 4 discharge and post discharge planning and pathways
• To identify areas of need in future services which aim to support young people when discharged
• To use our learnings to design a service, which we hypothesise will include a residential offering
• To ensure that any work we do in this area comes from the voice of young people with lived experienceWe will be working with local services in Bristol to support their existing work in this area as we have identified a network of Barnardo's colleagues and partners who are well placed to connect us with children, young people, adults and professionals with relevant experience.
We hope to speak to people aged between 13 and 25 who have had experience of discharge from CAMHS Tier 4 services in Bristol. Due to the contacts we have made, and the way we will be recruiting participants through workers and services they are familiar with, we envisage that most participants will be aged between 16 and 21.
