Research summary
The aim of this study is to evaluate and analyse certain factors(patient, tooth and site related) which affect changes in the location of the gum covering the necks of teeth after gum surgery using a three dimensional scanning device and conventional methods. This will be done on three occasions, initially before surgery, 1 week after surgery and 3 months after surgery. The surgery is necessary in all the cases which will be included in this study. To note any advantages of the scanner compared to conventional methods, such as improved detailed assessment, patient advice, management and lastly allowing us to minimise and perhaps even prevent gingival recession from occurring post-surgery taking into account the individual’s factors at play. 15 patients are required in this case series study. Impressions / moulds will be taken of the patients’ teeth and surrounding soft tissues and these will be analyzed by the scanner. Conventional methods will use a probe in the mouth alongside other readings to clinically assess the patients.
