  • Research summary

    Unconscious patients who have suffered a cardiac arrest will be admitted to the Essex CTC. They will recieve cooling for 24 hours in line with standard practice and guidelines. Patients will be sedated and have continuous brain monitoring. After 12 hours sedation will be reduced/stopped to enable a comprehensive brain assessment to be performed. Providing there are no adverse neurological signs the patient will be woken and extubated. Patients who remain unconscious will be reviewed 6 hourly for neurological recovery, and their ability to be extubated in line with standard practice.
