Research summary
Research Aims:
1. What is the value and impact of an experience led mental health service?
2. What are the barriers of an experience led mental health service?The proposed evaluation research will seek the views of a range of individuals who have involvement as a stakeholder of Self Help Services. Self Help Services is a user led mental health service based in Hulme, Manchester. We will expore peoples' views surrounding their experiences of using the service and value it brings as well as the barriers.The evaluation will be carried out by face to face interviews and focus groups. 25 individuals using drop in services for a range of primary care mental health needs (anxiety and depression) will be sought for focus groups and for interviews we will seek:
2 individuals using one to one therapy (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies program led by Self Help Services);
2 individuals using computerized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (part of Self Help Services Improving Access to Psychological Therapies program);
2 individuals employed by Self Help Services as Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners
2 individuals from outside the organization that have a stake in the service (e.g. commissioners and funders).The research was instigated by the viewpoint within Self Help Services that such a research and evaluation project is needed and has been led and developed in partnership with a project steering group at Self Help Services. This was attended by the Principle Researcher, Clare Edge who was invited by Self Help Services to carry out the research.
