Research summary
Infrared microspectroscopy is an emerging technology in health diagnostics. Rapid, reproducible and easy to use this technology has high sensitivity, specificity and accurate. Our proposal is to test NHS workers only in Derby and Burton Hospitals. All staff will be invited to participate. A questionnaire will divide the staff into 4 groups. The 4 different groups would be those who have tested positive and those negative, those who believe they have had Covid-19 and those who have not exposure. A finger prick of blood is taken from staff and applied to a slide. This is tested using infrared light. The result is analysed using mathematics and a positive or negative result is produced almost immediately. At 6 and 12 months we are asking our participants to complete a further short questionnaire. This is to see if those staff members with immunity are protected from future infection.
