  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to identify the independent and moderating effects of the timing and composition of weight gain, dietary intake and energy balance during pregnancy on infant birth weight and body composition, in an obese obstetric population. Expectant mothers will be recruited within the first trimester of pregnancy, and asked to undergo weight and body composition measurements, wear an accelerometer for 4 days to measure energy expenditure and to complete a diet diary for 4 days during the first, second and third trimesters of their pregnancy. Infant measurements concerning birth weight and body composition will be taken within 72 hours of birth. A maternal blood sample and cord blood sample will also be collected for use in a future study.
