Research summary
The aim of this study is to investigate the internal consistency and factor structure of the WAIS-IV with an intellectual disabilities population, in order to assess whether the factor structure is the same as that of the standardisation sample. We will also examine the relationship between IQ and adaptive functioning and the contribution of adaptive functioning assessment to the diagnosis of Intellectual Disability. The study will involve the anaysis of data (n=200) which has already been collected as part of routine clinical practice by Barnsley Adult Learning Disabilites Service. All data will be coded and anonymised before being entered into a database which will be stored on a secure computer at Barnsley Adult Learning Disabilites Service. The study will take place approximately over 12 months.
