  • Research summary

This study forms part of a formal PhD thesis investigating the perception of patient care with in Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. Many CT imaging departments are fast paced, high technology environments where patient interactions are relatively short compared to many other hospital care environments. Using a qualitative methodology involving semi structured interviews, this study aims to establish how patients define and experience care during a CT scan, and how CT radiographers define and model care whilst undertaking CT scans. The secondary aims of the study will be to establish where there is harmony or discord between the two groups, to assess whether or not interventions are needed to make the perceptions of care more unified, in order to maintain or achieve high quality care experiences during CT imaging.
The study will be conducted at a single NHS site and will involve 10 -15 radiographer participants , and 10-15 patient participants.
