  • Research summary

MOMENTUM is a clinical development project, the primary vehicle of which is a prospective observational study of patients treated on the MR-Linac initially at 7 institutions in the UK, Netherlands, US and Canada.

MOMENTUM study facilitates improvements in functional and anatomical workflows for the MR-Linac machine. This will provide a platform for the evaluation of safety and feasibility of new treatment strategies, as well as a repository for long-term follow-up data. Furthermore, this data will allow continuous improvements in the MR-Linac technology and online adaptive treatment by informing future research proposals. Patient enrolment and data collection will occur at participating institutions within the MR-Linac Consortium which is an international, multi-institutional research organisation of academic and industrial partners formed specifically to facilitate formal development and assessment of Magnetic Resonance-guided Radiation Therapy (MRGRT) and the MR-Linac.

    Objectives and Rational
To further understand performance and utilisation of the MR-Linac, MOMENTUM is designed to collect pre-treatment, treatment and follow up data on patients receiving either imaging or treatment on an MR-Linac. Data gathered will be used to optimise software, report treatment outcomes per disease site, report patient toxicities and progression free, disease free, and overall survival, and create a repository of anatomical and functional MR sequences.
