Research summary
Refugees and asylum seekers live with poorer mental health because of what they go through before leaving their home country and after arriving in their safe host country. Refugees and asylum seekers also face many challenges when trying to fit in with the country they move to- this makes their path to recovery more complicated.
While the United Kingdom does have resources to support people through their recovery through Recovery College, there are no resources to support the mental health of refugees and asylum seekers. There is also no model of recovery that is being used to help us make sense of refugee and asylum seekers’ recovery.
The goal of this study is to help us make sense of the meaning of recovery for refugees and asylum seekers, and their mental health recovery. This will be done through talking with around 10-12 refugees and asylum seekers. The themes that come up will be used to make sense of the meaning of recovery and then put together a model of recovery for refugees and asylum seekers. Through this model, the hope is to go on to put together recovery resources for refugees and asylum seekers.
