Research summary
The topic of the study is a new service and the purpose of the study is to capture the thoughts and perspectives of being a registered nurse working within the unit after introducing a new service. The study aim is to try to understand the Registered Nurses' experience of changes in the work environment and to inform and identify concerns and good practice within the department. The participants are registered nurses with knowledge and experience of the clinical area who must be willing to share and critically examine their experiences and responses to the clinical situation. The sampling of participants is from the women's health department only as that is the clinical setting of the study. The proposed study is to question the nurses' ideas regarding their experiences and responsibilities they have in providing the service. The impact of the service upon the staff is also important to investigate , to ascertain whether enough planning was made and how the staff have been affected. The information regarding effects of the service on staff will be utilised to improve practice and ensure appropriate staff inclusion , using semi structured interviews. This will investigate and attempt to understand the experience of change. The study will include feedback regarding processes and systems used within the nursing and clinical environment. The interviews will involve engaging and consulting with the staff to create more autonomy amongst them and to empower them and observe their needs.
