  • Research summary

The health outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes can be improved with good nutrition and physical activity levels and there is some evidence to suggest these two factors have been adversely affected by the COVID pandemic. The research is directed at gaining a greater understanding of how these factors may have been impacted in patients with Type 2 diabetes during lockdown in a cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes recruited from a GP practice in Wales. If it is demonstrated that there is a negative impact on health outcomes in this population then the research should be extended to other populations to see if this is a general trend. This will help inform Public Health strategies to address the problem.

All patients over the age of 18 with type 2 diabetes who are able to consent from a GP practice will be invited to take part. Eligible participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire about their current physical activity levels and nutrition and how it has changed during the COVID pandemic. This will be correlated to their diabetic control and other health markers stored on the GP practice computer system. No additional samples will be taken from the patients. They will be asked to complete a questionnaire and consent to the use of their data in an anonymised form.
