Research summary
SARS-CoV2 is a coronavirus that spreads by the airborne route, and is capable of causing severe respiratory disease (COVID19). In some people infection is controlled well, while in others it can be fatal. Understanding the immune response to the virus is key to understand why some people have more severe disease. The research will help us to development of new vaccines and treatment strategies. The virus has changed with time (mutated), to produce variants of concern (VOCs). These VOC's are mutated in ways that are key for certain types of immune response. Understanding the protection of the immune responses of current vaccines against different variants is important to understand how vaccines can be developed to effectively control different variants in the future.
