Research summary
The GSTT/KCL BioResource will form part of the National NIHR BioResource. The NIHR BioResource is a collaboration between six Biomedical Research Centres(GSTT/KCL, UCL, Imperial, SLAM, Oxford and Cambridge) and one Biomedical Research Unit (Leicester) to establish a federated database of healthy individuals and patients with various diseases, who are consented for recall for research on the basis of genotype or phenotype. The aim of the NIHR BioResource is to build on and integrate existing resources to promote recruitment of well genotyped and phenotyped participants into local studies coordinated through existing Clinical Research Facilities within NIHR Biomedical Research Units and Centres.
The GSTT/KCL BioResource will contribute to this national endeavour through local recruitment of 10,000 patients and volunteers from KCL cohorts and GSTT Hospitals. The GSTT/KCL BioResource will be based on the model of the Cambridge and UCL BioResource (Rec Ref 04/Q108/44 and 13/EE/0161 respectively) and will employ similar protocols.
