Research summary
The General Breathing Record Study (GBRS) will investigate the use of a new hand-held device in people with common breathing problems. It will investigate whether the device can detect differences between conditions that affect people’s breathing, namely asthma, heart failure, pneumonia, breathing pattern disorders and motor neurone disease. As a result this study will inform us whether the device can be used to help in the diagnosis of these conditions and then whether it can be used as a home monitor, to detect deteriorations in the future. \nThis study is being conducted at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and aims to recruit 60 people with different breathing conditions and 10 healthy controls. \nEach participant will be given the device to take home and will breathe into it at their normal rate of breathing for 75 seconds, twice a day (morning and evening) for 6 months. They will keep in regular contact with the study team and have appointments at 2,4 and 6 months.
