Research summary
Summary
Over the past 2 years, a service user co-led workshop called the ‘Tree of Life’ has been running throughout South London and Maudsley (SLAM) in-patient service with 3 key aims.
1) As a tool to promote the recovery approach to mental health on acute wards through its approach and by involving trained service users from the community to help co-facilitate workshops.
2) To recognise and value culture, heritage and spirituality as resources in the process of recovery which are specifically important in the engagement with Black and Minority Ethnic Groups
3) To build more positive and collaborative relationships between staff and service users.
Specifically this study aims to explore the impact of the Tree of Life model on staff and service user relationships on the wards, by interviewing staff members who have participated in Tree of Life workshops on the inpatient wards.
The interviews will be transcribed verbatim and analysed using the qualitative method of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.REC name
