  • Research summary

Patients undergoing surgery on the head are very often given drugs during anaesthesia to paralyse their muscles so that they do not move or cough during surgery. At the end of the operation these paralysing drugs are either allowed to wear off on their own, or a drug is given to make the effects wear off more quickly. Recently a new drug (sugammadex) has been introduced. It is licensed for use in neurosurgery but we would like to make sure that it has no effects on the pressure inside the head after operations. We want to compare it to the drug combination that was previously used (neostigmine / glycopyrollate).
