Research summary
Sepsis of the child’s hip is a potentially serious condition requiring urgent diagnosis and management. There are a variety of other less common conditions that may present with similar symptoms and signs, but which may demand different treatments and management.
This study seeks to examine the range of pathologies presenting as, but separate from, septic arthritis of the hip to Sheffield Children's Hospital over a set time frame (to be finalised on review of the different electronic databases).
A cohort of patients will be identified from these databases and a retrospective case note and radiological review undertaken: this will determine the range of different pathologies that present as septic arthritis over the specified time frame. Clinical data will be reviewed to identify any characteristics that might aid in the differential diagnosis, and act as prompts to initiate alternate investigations (such as MRI scans,) or different therapies (conservative or operative treatment.)REC name
