  This study will audio-tape 6 first out-patient consultations between dietitians and patients. Various qualitative methods for consultation analysis; including critical discourse analysis, conversational analysis and speech act content analysis, will be applied to analyse the anonymised transcriptions from these recordings. The study aims to explore how knowledge is constructed between dietitians and patients in the context of the consultation and how power dynamics and assumed identities affect this construction.
