Research summary
Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterised by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, most often the liver and kidneys. Pre-eclampsia usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy in women whose blood pressure had been normal. It is associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease later in life. At present, little is known about the prevention of heart disease in women suffering from pre-eclampsia during their pregnancy. The purpose of this study is to make recommendations for follow-up tests in women with pre-eclampsia well before the onset of heart disease and to influence international guidelines, which in turn has the potential to influence the treatment and long term follow up of women with pre-eclampsia. We are interested in studying women who have had a normal pregnancy as well as those who have had preeclampsia. \n\n
