Research summary
This study aims to identify research priorities that provide opportunities to support nursing care delivery in non-traditional ways by implementing the 'team around the patient' concept. It will follow a scoping review of the literature using the Arksey and O’Malley scoping framework (2005), and will enable the researcher to assimilate the literature with the opinions of experts in the field and thus inform the focus for the primary doctoral research.
Semi-structured interviews, followed by a Delphi survey, will form the first stage of the research.
The semi structured interviews will involve key stakeholders identified by the researcher within the health board of which future case studies will be undertaken. The interviews will refine the Delphi study themes through exploration of the identified key themes that the Delphi study aims to understand.
The Delphi survey will engage individual expert opinions to group consensus through a series of iterative stages. Using a set of inclusion criteria and purposive sampling, a group of experts will be identified, and invited to participate in the study via an introductory email accompanying a participant information sheet. Round 1 will gather qualitative data, using a survey, about their professional opinions in relation to the research priorities, which will then be subjected to content analysis.
