  • Research summary

We have developed, culturally sensitive interventions to provide information and advice on protective behaviours, testing and vaccination for people from Black and South Asian populations. The intervention comprises short written materials (key guidance documents), which will be made available in multiple languages and short films (~3 minutes) aiming to promote COVID-19 protective behaviours, testing and vaccination for people from Black and South Asian communities in the UK. The interventions include simple, direct, reassuring messaging from members of the communities, including celebrities from the Black and South Asian community.

There are several dissemination methods for interventions which will be evaluated which include: bulk personalised text messaging at GPs, opportunistically in GP and practice nurse consultations, community pharmacy/champions and faith leaders, Public Health England networks and via the Futures NHS collaboration platform. Many of these ways of dissemination will utilise social media (e.g. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter Instagram, WhatsApp), of which NHS digital will house the films and key guidance documents.

    This project will evaluate:
    • whether the interventions changes attitudes, intentions and behaviours to implementing protective measures against COVID-19.
    • the feasibility and practical issues of the dissemination methods for the films
    • Factors associated with vaccine uptake/ refusal
